Das TITK arbeitet als eines von 17 Mitgliedern im European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence (EPNOE). Das Konsortium repräsentiert acht führende, europäische Nationen (Deutschland, Österreich, Frankreich, Niederlande, Finnland, Polen, Slowenien, Rumänien) auf dem Gebiet der FuE zur Polysaccharidherstellung, Derivatisierung, Verformung und Anwendung. Es wird von Prof. Dr. Patrick Navard, Ecole des Mines de Paris (Frankreich) koordiniert. Das Projekt ist eine Initiative der EU-Kommission, um die in den Mitgliedsstaaten vorhandene Fragmentierung der europäischen Forschungs- und Entwicklungslandschaft auf dem genannten Gebiet zu beseitigen. Hauptziel ist hierbei die Stärkung des europäischen Raums im internationalen Wettbewerb der Regionen.

Darüber hinaus sollen durch gemeinsame FuE-Aktivitäten sowohl neue Erkenntnisse im Grundlagenbereich ( Struktur-Eigenschafts-Relation ) als auch für innovative Applikationsfelder dieser Klasse von nachwachsenden Rohstoffen erschlossen werden.

Das TITK vertritt im Verbund vor allem das bei der Entwicklung von Trocken-Nass- bzw. Nass-Verformungstechnologien erworbene Know-how zur alternativen, umweltfreundlichen Celluloseformkörperfertigung sowie die Fertigkeiten bei der Entwicklung neuartiger Werkstoffe auf der stofflichen Grundlage von nativen Polymeren.
