The classical applications of polymers are in the field of constructing and structuring materials, which are focussed on mechanical properties. Nowadays a growing importance of functional polymers in non structural fields can be noticed. Specific properties like electrical, magnetic and optical are of particular interests.

On this background technological oriented research projects and services are realised in the area of synthetic functional polymer materials and polymer systems, organic nanolayers and nanolayer-composites as well as technologies for micro-structuring and micro-processing.

Also industrial high-performance-polymers and high-tech-polymers with a high melting point will be modified chemically and physically with functional, migrationable and reactive polymer additives for generating special surface and interface properties inclusive their processing to foils and filaments for the fibre- and polymer industries.
